25 Enero 2016---So many who want to SERVE!!!

SERVICE---lots of service!

We have been working hard in the area. And things are really looking up.

We had the World Wide Mission Conference. It was really great. We heard from Elder Bednar, Elder Oaks, and Elder Andersen. and many other Seventies. The cool thing is that in our mission we have been making a lot of changes and all the changes and things we have been pushing went right along with the things that were mentioned. The spirit is the teacher and has helped us a lot as a mission.

On the 22nd of  January,  we had a District Leader Council. We trained the District Leaders how to be district leaders for an hour and a half and then president and his wife talked.

We are really excited for the ward. We have the buses that are going to the areas on Sunday to pick up people. What a blessing that is. We brought 15 in the bus this time, instead of 4 like last time. That was in the bus I was in from San Vicente. (We have 2 buses, I go in one to San Vicente and My companion goes to Dulce Nombre) There were also more from Dulce Nombre this time.

On Sunday, we had a less active that we have been working with and a just recently converted member was able to go to the temple come up to us and ask if he could visit people with us. We also had Jovany, (last baptism) come and ask the same question! SWEEEEET!!!! And Heber(Great Guy that I met when I was in Zona La Paz that just transferred to our ward) and Paolo also approached my comp and I with the same question---wanting to serve others through the power of missionary work. And yeah anyways we did divisions and then we did divisions of those divisions haha. It was great.
This is an excerpt from a letter that my comp and I wrote to the President about our awesome experience with doing divisions:

I was surprised to see, on Sunday, after a less active Sunday school classes and recent convert to reach me and ask for the opportunity to leave with us. They came with a strong desire to share their own initiative. We went with the new assistant to the mission leader as a group to the area where we wanted to work, to get told them the purpose of these visits. I took them to the house of a less active we have visited. The assistant was mission leader with the least active. They taught 2 less active families while I went with the recent convert. We went to contact some references that members had given us in the church. We found some new and felt the strong spirit in the lesson to hear a recent convert to testify to investigators about their own experiences. Upon completion of divisions, the recent convert told us that he did not have to work until Friday and it felt so great to share with others. and that he would like to go out with us every day. The new convert also assured us that next Sunday, he will be with us. So we left them with some lessons and spiritual experiences with assistant mission leader before ending the divisions that night.
I went with another active member, and we planned to have a night of group with the mission leader and bishop's counselor would direct it. We went and worked and met some people and invited them to attend the evening group. We called another recent convert and gave the task to invite other members to attend the group night. When we arrived it was a joy to see not only less active members there, but also many recent converts and some researchers.  The bishop and the leader of the high priests group came to the group night; it was a very nice experience and uplifting. Then in that night with us 2 missionaries, we had 8 other priesthood holders working with us in missionary work, visiting and inviting. We  are working and we will see much success in our area. We know that miracles require work and what we are doing is working and the Lord is blessing us away!

Your friend Elder Adams

We had some cool lessons. The Spirit is great. There are so many times that people ask questions and the spirit answers the person through us.

I gave a talk in church on Sunday. I talked about the Book of Mormon and reading it. I talked on what, why, how, and the blessings that come from it. It was good. I used the talk from 2005 by Elder Perry---The Blessing of reading the book of Mormon.

*Funny story so we went to go get people in the bus. while there we went to go knock on a few doors to remind the people and an excited dog jumped up on my shirt and left a huge mud stain on the front of my white shirt. haha --So the member I was with called his mom quickly, and luckily just before I had to talk in church I was able to change my shirt and talk to all with a white shirt.  Whew!  :o)

Tell all thanks for everything! Thanks Grandparents A and B! Love ya all!

18 Enero 2016---BAPTISM!!!

Hello Family!
This week was good. We had a few Zone Conferences that we went to with the President.  We were taught about a few things---mainly about Faith and Repentance, and how we invite all to not just have faith, but to show their faith through repentance.  We talked about how it is ever ongoing and should be for all people.

We took a beautiful trip like we have taken before through a national park to get to Guapiles, where we taught missionaries there.

It was a very beautiful drive!

Anyways my birthday, we went to the meeting with the ward mission leader and then we got back to the house that morning and the elders from San Diego were there and they had a cake that my companion had helped plan.  He planned and bought  a cake and then they sang  happy birthday and we ate and drank some root beer, it was fun!

                                                                     BIG 20!!!!!!!
ONE, TWO, THREE------BLOW!!!!!!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY---------20 years!!!!  WOW!

AND HE DID IT------WHEW, that was hard  :o)

Celebrating my birthday at a members home :o)

My birthday was great! Thanks for the Package! I got it! You are awesome!  We went with  3 missionaries in the area and then the elders from San Diego--our Zone Leaders. They are Elder Barben and Elder Velver. I am sure you will recognize Elder Barben from Sizzlers before the mission. We eat lunch every day together!   Kind of crazy that we first meant over food and that is what we still do--eat together!   haha ---we have been doing this for months. Here is a picture I put up for you guys.  Elder Barben is on the left (blonde hair) and Elder Velver by me on the right.

Then we went and ate lunch and did the normal until the baptism at 6. I got to baptize Jovany he´s a great guy. The water was colder than normal! We invited the Burts to come. They don´t usually go to baptisms. But they are our good friends.

Here are several more pictures of the baptism.  He is amazing!

After the baptism, we met up with the Bishop and did some planning. then we went to a members house and they sang happy birthday to me and brought out a cake with my name on it and gave it to me, and I almost dropped it haha. but it was good. It´s a tradition to bite the cake after they give it to you and get your face all dirty.

Sunday was good. We are really excited for the future of the ward. We are going to have buses in the area to pick up people and take them to church. We have kind of been struggling in these past months but the Lord blesses us with baptisms. We hope for more in February and March.

Cool experience, On Sunday we had the chance to go eat dinner in President´s House just me and my companion and another missionary. It was a cool experience and then his family called him and we got to meet his family throught a group video call. and then Sister Hayes sent us home with some home made baked cookies. Those two are awesome!
I love you all!  Have the best week ever!

11 Enero 2016--People of Progress

Howdy!!!!!
Guess What! We have a baptism on my Birthday :)---This Saturday! His name is Jovany. He is a great guy; really repentant and humble.

This week was good. We picked up all the new missionaries from the airport on Monday and got home super late. Then on Tuesday, we helped with the Latinos as they arrived in the airport. We were there with President Laboriel and his assistants (West Mission President). He is a great guy. The week went good. The mission department has sent us some things that we will be changing in the mission. We are going to divisions different. Now the companionship will come to our area and work first---the both of them, for 24 hours. This will take place of dividing the companionship. It is going to have some amazing results.

We are also changing and defining the leadership positions of the mission. We sat down with President and wrote up a few papers and planned out the mission. We are no longer going to have Zone Meetings monthly. There is also a lot of other things that are changing.

This week was good. We had a barbecue on Saturday with the Stake President and a member family. Then on Sunday, we ate lunch at the bishop´s house and the Stake President was there too! Haha, so we have gotten to know him even better. Our bishop, Gabbi´s friend, Rafael Marin, well his his birthday is the 17th of January as well! haha You should send me a big pack of Beef Jerky. He loves that stuff and it´s not real accessible here. Peanut butter is very accessible although many believe it´s not.

I have been studying about the Light of Christ. Great interesting topic.

Well my friends! Share the gospel! Keep the Testimony fire burning strong! I love the talk from Elder Andersen about Faith in the last General Conference ¨Faith is not by Chance, but by Choice¨ it's a real great talk. I encourage each of you to study it.
When studying the scriptures, I invite you all to search the Who, What, When, Where, and Why? It might take some extra research, but it helps a lot. For example knowing when and where Paul wrote the letters to Corinth. Paul was there and baptized a bunch of people and now 3 years later is writing to these people. The city of Corinth is a terrible city of wickedness. So Paul writes a letter to his converts basically. There are many other details to include, but it helps to understand the context.  Remember we are all people of progress--continually progression toward our perfection with the Lord.-----Never give up!

Well I love you all! Have a great week!

Elder Caleb Adams
PS-This week we have a few Zone Conferences. One in Toyopan(Guadalupe) and one in
Guapiles and then La Zona Limón. look them up on the map :)

4 Enero 2016

Hey° Crazy Day!  We went to pick up the new gringos(the greenies) from the airport tonight.  They arrived at 9:30 pm !   yeah haha late.

Nuestros Norteamericanos Nuevos son muy buenos! Bienvenidos a Costa Rica!

Our New Americans are very good! Welcome to Costa Rica

Singing---Somos llamados a servir!!  We are called to serve!!
(sorry for the blurred picture--it was a still shot from a video)

As stated in Alma 32, Those seeds grow best in fertile soil or in other words. `a humble heart` Trials make us humble, Fasting helps us to be humble, etc. Humility is a key to helping those seeds flourish. We are given seeds by the Lord to plant and nurture. For some of us, the seed may take after the first time. For others, we may have to plant and replant and replant and replant over and over and over again until we get it right. The Lord doesn't judge us by how many times we have to plant. He just wants us to keep planting, meaning we get up each day and we pray, we read the scriptures, and do all those things that he has ask us to do in order for us to give our full selves to him. It is through that planting process, that he helps our faith and testimony to grow and strengthen and blossom into what he sees that we can become-----that beautiful rose.

This week has been good! A little on the wild side! haha We had to send 12 missionaries return home and had to plan changes and then we got some new ones.  President  needed us to do changes different because of some stuff he got from the Missionary Department. So he left the work up to us and we got it figured out. We planned the trip for every missionary in the mission. Now they had to leave their missionary in the area and travel alone. So we planned like crazy and send directions to all the Zone Leaders and planned some more. And today everything worked out great---in 3 and a half hours we had everybody in there new areas with their new companions,  and some zones are far away as well.---- Well we almost had everybody in the area. Except for the Zona Sur. They were still in the bus. It`s a 7 hour ride. Yea, so Whew!!! Lots to do and keep me very busy!  Great though and I am loving it!

We prepared a training for the mission. We taught it in the Leadership Council and then we have gone around and been teaching it to the Zones. We also created a new way to give follow up to all the Zones in the mission with President. It`s called "Personas en el Proceso" or "People in the Process". It`s pretty cool. We hope to see the fruits of it starting in February and March.

We have been teaching the missionaries and the members of our ward that missionary work is not just Baptizing! haha It is inviting all to Come unto Christ. Inviting them to show their faith and repent. Or in other words to enter into the process of repentance, and not leave the process. It`s not just about being a good person. It`s about becoming perfected, becoming like Him. I hope that we never leave that process and that we can invite others to not leave that process.

Life is good we are working with a man named Geovanny, He is great, We explained that process to him and has been coming to church and is really repenting and coming closer to Christ to be able to be baptized and keep progressing. Pray for him! He just lost his job and has not been able to find work.
Tomorrow we meet with the Trainers again, We taught them today. It went great. We will get all the new missionaries assigned and then get them out into the areas.
Well, have a GREAT NEW YEAR! and I hope that in all those goals that you have put. You have also made some Spiritual goals as well!

Love you all!

Beginning of February Elder Adrian Ochoa of he Seventy is coming and we will do some Multi Zone Conferences.
Life is good. We are really excited for the new year. We are about to change our Sunday schedules to 10 am Sacrament. So we are pretty happy and we are going to have buses to help us bring less actives and investigators.  We have been able to work with the transportation department to make this possible.

We have some great members. But please keep the mission and our ward in your prayers that we can see more success in the coming year!

Well I love you all!!!

Here is a letter that President and Sister Randy Hayes sent out to each of our families in regards to Christmas and the important work we are doing with the people here in Costa Rica----

Dear families of our wonderful missionaries in the Costa Rica, San Jose East Mission:

At this very special time of year as we celebrate the birth and life of our Savior Jesus Christ, we would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

How blessed we are to be surrounded by your strong and faithful young men and women, who carry a light in their eyes and a testimony in their hearts of Christ and his restored gospel. Your missionaries are hard workers and see clearly the vision of the importance of spreading Christ's light and truth to all. They are blessing the lives of many special people here in Costa Rica.

May we keep the Spirit of Christ with us always, striving more fully each day to think on Christ, learn of Him, walk in His steps, and do what He would have us do and by so doing blessing the lives of others as we invite them to "Come Unto Him."

We thank you so much for sharing your precious "children" with us for a time. We love them as our own.

With love and warmest wishes,

President and Sister Randy Hayes

P.S. We would also like to remind you of our facebook page where we post pictures of our mission events and most importantly your missionaries!!

It is “Los Hayes en Costa Rica.” See you there!!
