11 de Abril 2016

Things have been good in these days. We have been working hard to get people to go to church and to get the members excited about the work. We have been going around challenging the members to make a list of all the people they know and then pray and choose a few people from that list. So this next week we are hoping to see a few miracles.

Best part of the week.... hmm I liked the whole week. I loved being able to go with the members and gain there confidence. This ward has so much potential.

Toughest part.... I got kind of sick but I am fine now. I have got this weird rash that I have had for a few days, that itches... all up my stomach BUT, don`t worry about it mom. ;o)

My companion is great. He just needs that excitement about the work! But he has got the desire and is obedient.

Today we went and finally bought curtains for our giant house. so the neighbors can`t see us now. ha ha :o)
Hey and there are 8 in my district. Pray for them and the work they do.
Well, I love you all and I hope you have a great week! Sorry for the short email!

April 4 2016--Miracles

Here is a picture from a member in Orem,Utah, named Lance Hellewell. He was visiting and knows Elder Bergen. The elder with me in the picture is Elder Bergen from Orem Utah who he knows well. Elder Bergen just arrived to the mission,---- super cool elder. and he wanted to take a picture with me haha so thats why I am with him.
My companion is Elder Catalan from El Salvador. Great Elder, humble nice guy. 19yrs old. 3months in the mission you will meet him in May.

Last week was good. Last Monday we went and got the news. and then had the Trainers meeting with President and then we ate some Pizza. Tuesday we woke up and went with the Stake Patriarch to go pick up the new Latinos flying in. It went well. We then took them to the temple and shared testimonies there. A great group of news.
Here we are waiting at the airport for the new missionaries to fly in-----

Then we took them to the office where we showed them some things. They did Migration and finance stuff. We had a sister that showed up a little later than the rest of the group so President stayed in the Airport. Once he got there, We assigned the Trainers to the new Missionaries and they were off! Then on Wednesday, We worked in the area and said goodbye to people there, Heber Campos invited us to dinner to say goodbye. he is the one in the blue shirt with the slicked over hair in this picture---Great supportive member here.

On Thursday, we went and ate lunch with another member that wanted to say goodbye haha and then we traveled to the office where we waited for the Stillmans to arrive. A new missionary couple we have been waiting for for a while. We had a very nice lunch prepared for them and we ate some more and it was a great experience. then we went to the area and worked.

Cool Story, We went to visit an old investigator and while my companions were knocking on the door I went to the neighbors house and yelled Upe! Buenas! haha but they didn`t come out so I yelled some more and some more and louder haha until the guy living on the 2nd floor across the street heard me and thought I was calling him. so he came down and we hurried over and talked to him. Anyways what`s cool is he said, ¨Sorry I did come sooner I was asleep¨ I was praying real hard to have the spirit more in my life and to receive an answer from god about what I should do because I don`t have a job and I need to pay for my mom and the family. After I prayed, I was waited intently for an answer and fell asleep.... but it was your yelling that woke me up.¨ Well we testified to him right then and there that god had sent us to help him and that we don`t believe in coincidences. Long story short we entered and he promised to attend church on all the Sundays and accepted a baptismal date. his name is Gerald.

Cool Story. So before leaving Tres Rios, I had been thinking about how I could arrive to my new area and gain the confidence of the members there. I created small cards on Microsoft word in the office and printed them out. They say: Brothers and Sisters, We are here to help you in the work of the Lord. If you need anything or know anyone we could teach or help. Don`t hesitate to call. Elder Adams and Elder Catalan. with our number in big font.
So first day in the area every member`s house we went to I would put that on the fridge haha. and then on Sunday I shook everybody`s hand and gave a card out to them. This morning before 6am in the morning I got a phone call from a sister saying. ¨Elder, I am sister so and so. you gave me a card with your number. I am calling because I am in a lot of pain and really need a blessing, please come as soon as possible.¨ So We had an impression to call a less active that I had met Saturday. We invited him to go with us. He took us in his car to the sister`s home early in the morning and we gave her a blessing. Afterward he said wow, that card thing was a good idea. Can you imagine if she didn`t have it. She only has two weeks in the ward and doesn`t know any members, she wouldn`t have had anyone, she lives alone with her son.
I know the small impressions that the lord gives us are important and we should follow them.

On Friday Morning we went to the Temple! It was a great uplifting experience as always. I enjoyed it. We got there early and I have learned from the example of Boyd K Packer that Reverence accompanies revelation. It`s important to arrive early in order to keep the reverence and prepare one self. We took some good pics. then afterward we went to the office and from there President drove me to the house in Tres Rìos and we loaded up my luggage. and then we took a Road trip to Guapiles. It was a great trip. I got to speak with President and ask some things. then we arrived to Guapiles and President took me and Elder Catalan to Lunch with Elder Moss and Elder Muñoz. They are the Zone Leaders. They were the District Leaders when I was in Zona La Paz.

Pray for Jairo,(Pronounced Hairo) good guy, Great guy. I arrived at his house yesterday and he said to us that he has been receiving the missionaries for about 2 years now, and hasn`t wanted to be baptized. So we taught some small things and talked about the baptism and I took out the Baptismal Record and showed it to him. Anyways he now has a Baptismal Date set for the 23rd of April. He said he feels that we are the elders that will see him in the water.

Pray for the Guapiles District, It`s struggling quite a bit.

Love ya all and hope you have a great week!

Changes--- 28 de Marzo 2016

Guess where I drove today... to the airport to pick up the new missionaries. It was fun a good experience as always to take the to the Temple afterward.

Last week we helped President with the Changes and then announced them to the Zone Leaders on Friday. I have changes. I will be going to Guapiles. I have been there before. Changes were today but I will not go until Friday in order to help with this week of Changes. President will drive me to Guapiles on Friday in his car. It´s about an 1 and half drive. It´s hot there!  hace color!   My companion will be Elder Catalan from El Salvador. He´s got 3 months in the mission. I will be with him for 1 change and then I will train.

. This week is going to be exciting. On Sunday, The Bishop asked me to share my last Testimony with the ward because I won`t be there next sunday. So that was cool experience. I am grateful for the chance I have been able to work side by side with President Hayes and I have learned a lot. I am excited to teach it all to a new missionary.

Last week was cool. we had the leadership meeting and went to a few district meetings. Today we planned the next Zone Conferences and the District Leader Council in April. I will be there hehe. and we planned some other things they will do in the future.

Love ya and hope that you will have a great week

14 de Marzo 2016

I have learned a lot up to this point in my mission and hope to learn more.
I love all of these missionaries of the mission. I can´t comprehend how President Hayes does all that he does, but I have been able to see how awesome it is to work with all of these elders and sister and help them. There is a great deal of obilgation when you have been given the privelage to serve with the Lord's annointed. Please keep our mission in your prayers.
Today, was the monthly check up. It went great. It was a smaller group this time. President shared 4 things that we are going to be pushing in the mission.
How to know if you are succesful:
1. be obedient to the rules.
2. be clean, physically and spiritually.
3. (Small Spanish lesson in Spanish there are two ways to say ¨to know¨ one is saber which entitles to know knowledge or information and conocer which means to meet or get to know someone) #3 is conocer el libro de mormon. or really get to know the book of mormon like the back of your hand.
4. strive to have 20 progressing investigators always.

So I talked on #3 in the monthly check up. The Book of Mormon is awesome. It helps bring an end to contention and bring peace. Truly an inspired book.

2 Nephi 3:12

On Saturday we had 2 baptisms. Rafael and Judy. We found Rafael some pants and a white shirt and Sister Hayes so nicely bought a large bible in the temple for him so he can read the bible now. He is so very humble---75 year old man. Walks to church and always arrives about an hour early. it takes him about 45mins to an hour to walk to church. I can learn a lot from this man.
Good Ole Rafael!------

We found a new investigator that is from the south part of Costa Rica. He speaks a language called ¨Gwaimy¨ He taught us quite a few words. And I helped him practice english. How are you is Mätúño. good is ¨Kwin¨

I took a trip this week to a place called ¨Los Santos¨ I worked with a great elder there. Elder Winders from Alaska. The place is actually called San Marcos where the branch is located. We had the chance to teach some spiritual lessons and feel of the love the lord has. We were climbing a Mountain, literally, and we came across a woman, breathing hard from carrying some fruits from the local store. We offered help and she quickly agreed. What a great excercise! haha carrying those heavy fruits up the mountain. Anyways we took the fruits to her house and she cut one open and shared it with us. We then shared a scripture from the book of mormon, 2 Nephi chapter 2. The spirit was there. A lot of her kids and made some wrong decisions and she was pretty sad and her husband left her to go be with another man. We shared the short message with her on the porch.

Some principles I learned this week:
Prayer is real, it works. He Lives!   He´s no respecter of persons. The Spirit teaches the hear.t This is His work and glory ¨But Jesus beheld them and said unto the, with men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.¨

Know that you are all in my prayers.

BAPTISM!!! 07 de Marzo 2016

Hola from COSTA RICA!!!!!

1. Best part of the week, I don´t know if I could narrow it down. We had the Central America Regional Conference and we got the chance to hear from Elder Neil L. Andersen and he spoke to us in Spanish!---- and he doesn´t speak Spanish!!! He served in France. It was cool to hear from him and from other general authorities, They spoke a lot on Missionary work and how all members are missionaries. It was awesome! We also were able to find some good new investigators this week. We were asking an investigator if they knew anyone that we could visit and they said no. Then we asked again in a different way--: ) , and sure enough they gave us a name. Her name is Martha and her husband Freddy. They are just starting but we are working with them.

2.Hardest part of the week, hmmm. I don´t know there is not one giant experience that comes to mind. I have an ingrown toe nail again haha. We are struggling to get all of the members working in the ward. and working with the mission so that it can always keep getting better.

3.Tender Mercy, ---well we were walking to an appointment and then we decided to stop and pass by a house. We knocked on the door and a woman came out and we started talking to her about Jesus Christ. She said things were rough, We quoted a few scriptures, and then she started crying and it was a spiritual experience. The Lord loves all of his children and it is interesting to see how many times he allows us to be there in the right place, at the right time , and to be able to lift someones spirit and invite them unto Christ.

Today we talked on tithing and how it is more than just giving money and receiving more later, or receiving that secret check in the mail. It is more about the spiritual blessing that we can receive.

I have so many things to share! I can´t wait to share them with you in the future about the gospel and doctrine.

Attached is a picture of Rafael, the baptism we will have this Saturday at 4 pm. Judy will also be baptized.

I gave Rafael a haircut before the big day :o)

Baptism of the sweetest, gentlest man-----Rafael

Love you all! Have a great week!

PS--Oh Yeah! I forgot to mention that today we were able to go with the Zone of Los Yoses and go Paint balling! It was a fun experience! -----STart sharing the new video the chyurch has for Easter, titled---"Hallelujah".    It's a good one!

Thank you for your support--all of you! I feel of your love and prayers! :o)

Happy Spring! 21 de Marzo 2016

This week we were busy busy busy!

On Tuesday we celebrated Sister Hayes birthday and had the office meeting and then a district meeting. then on Wednesday we did divisions with the Zone Leaders from Cartago. Thursday early morning, we woke up and got in the car with President Hayes and his wife and went on a road trip. We went to Perez Zeledon. We talked and met with the elders and sisters there. Then, we continued our journey all the way to Rio Claro. In Rio Claro, President dropped us off and we did divisions with the elders there to help them. Then that same Thursday night, we took a bus and went to Ciudad Neily and slept there. Then on Friday we studied with the Zone Leaders there, Elder Nuñez and Elder Rosander (you might recognize those names :]) Then Saturday at 4 am we woke up and took a bus to our area. It´s an 8 hour bus ride! ahh haha!!! :o)

Starting on Wednesday morning, my throat kind of hurt. Well by the time Friday came around, I couldn´t talk at all! I have decided that as a missionary that has got to be one of the worst things because you have to talk all the time. It was all good though.

Today, we drove to Zona La Paz area where we cut some Bamboo for an awesome activity we are planning for the 8th of April. It will be the "plan of salvation" and there will be a plane that people will get on and then the plane will crash. We will then show them the plan of salvation.

This week is going to be busy too. We have the Leadership Counsel on Friday and a meeting tomorrow with President. There will then be changes on the next Monday.

Love you all! Have an awesome week!

Love--
